Splatoon Global Testfire Gameplay
I got to play the Splatoon Global Testfire for about 40 minutes tonight and recorded some gameplay. The first two matches are my very first two Splatoon matches, while the last one was a little later in the night when I was trying the paint roller out (Out of my 7 games played, these are games 1, 2, and 6). Before anybody complains, yes, I honestly forgot the Super Weapons existed until my last game of the night.
The game itself is a lot of fun, but I'm still not sure it'll be worth the $60 price tag yet since I can see it getting old fast. Then again, this was just 2 stages and set loadouts, so we'll see how the full game fares when there's more variety on the table. The gyroscope controls mostly work out, especially with the first weapon I used since it's much easier to keep sweeping up and down to paint a large area when you can just keep flicking your wrists up and down instead of constantly flicking the control stick (although this method does make the video a bit sickening to watch, I apologize). The touch screen warp however seems fussy: sometimes I'll have to tap multiple times for it to register I'm tapping on something. The servers themselves held up better than I honestly expected from Nintendo. I thought I was going to end up making a joke video where the only gameplay was getting errors when I was immediately met with a "Server is too busy" error message followed by a flood of more error messages, but it cleared up after about 5 minutes. I did run into sets of errors when I backed out to change weapons and tried to rejoin again, but it only lasted 2 minutes. Once I was in, the games were virtually lag free.
With that being said, the balance *might* need some work as the paint roller seems pretty broken at least as far as Turf War is concerned. One of the most overwhelming victories I had was when our team was 4 paint rollers vs. an actual balanced team. We'll see if people develop a good counter for it.
