And so my career as a Super Mario Maker begins! I can't begin to explain how excited I am that this game exists. Since its rechristening at E3 and the wonderful showing at the Nintendo World Championships, I have been concocting numerous level ideas in my head, and I'm finally relieved to get them out into the game.

First up, "Through the Looking Pipe". What starts as a fairly classic style Super Mario Bros. stage suddenly takes a turn on its head once Mario heads through the pipe. This was a very fun level and surprisingly simple level to make: my desire to keep that more classic SMB style meant I didn't have to get that complicated with the number and type of enemies and such. The hardest part was creating the subworld. I ended up taking photos of each "screen" on the TV and using that as a guide to make the mirrored version.

I did actually start to run out of room near the end: my original idea was to have a more hidden way to get to the top of the flagpole. However, I ended up scrapping that because it would have meant having to enable vertical scrolling on the main area which ruined that classic feel I was going for. The only reason vertical scrolling is enabled in the bottom area is because the player could have jumped on top of the "ground" off screen if I hadn't raised the ground above the vertical scrolling limit. Overall, I feel it's rather solid for a first attempt.
