Splatoon (Global Testfire) -- Menu, Website, and Manual
Happy Mother's Day! ...wait, no, that's only good regionally, and even more confusingly lumped together with other traditional holidays of seemingly similar but often varied origins and cultural connotation, not to mention different dates entirely. Oh, and what if you're watching this on some OTHER day that isn't Mother's Day? It's not like I'm going to take it down the day after it goes live, which will make the description grossly inaccurate! So that's no good... unless it IS actually Mother's Day where you are, then disregard my subsequent musings and have a happy Mother's Day!)
...so... happy Splatoon Global Testfire Debriefing Day! What do you mean that's not a thing?! What are you, a greeting card company? You can't make the rules about who gets to make up pseudo-holidays!
Ahem, anyway, this weekend was the "Global Testfire" for the upcoming Splatoon for Wii U, essentially a free online demo and server stress-test... but with the catch that it was only going to be open for one hour three timeframes across Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th.
So... how was it? It. Was. Spectacular. I mean, it was a tiny taste test with really inconveniently brief windows and oddly-scheduled hours, but YOU try setting up a global demo sometime, huh?! I mean, it did what it needed to just right... it built hype, it gave people just enough to whet their appetites (with GUSTO!), and it gave Nintendo some much-needed technical data in the process. (One might argue, self-servingly, that an hour here and there is hardly a useful sample size... so pelase... I need a new fix already! I'm jonesing something fierce here!)
But that's not what this video is about. Nope, it's about the boring footnotes and by-the-way details. Specifically, I happened to try to use the thing before it was time (just to see what'd happen, obviously!) and then was broken down to the point of poking at their offer to visit the website set up for this little shindig, and then somehow it came to my attention that they had a manual written for the thing... which curiously seems to be more of a version of the full game's manual than specifically related to the Testfire...
So yeah, look forward to all that, because that's all this video is. Nope, no shooting or inking or further thinking going on here! ...no, really, I'm serious. That's it. Come back next time if you want something like that.
(You're lucky, it wasn't until way late in the cutting process that I thought to make this its own video instead of having to deal with it being the first half of the next video or something. LUCKY, I SAID!)
