It's been a while since we talked about all things spongey so let's have a chat about SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake as it nears it's release date! I have a rather long history with THQNordic and Purple Lamp Studios, after covering their previous title, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. I am really interested and excited by this new Nickelodeon game but the question remains, will it be worth the wait?

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is an upcoming platform game developed by Purple Lamp Studios and published by THQ Nordic. It is based on the Nickelodeon animated series SpongeBob SquarePants and is scheduled for release on January 31, 2023, on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The Cosmic Shake is a 3D platformer. As SpongeBob, the player navigates through several distinctly themed worlds, known as ''Wishworlds" within the game, with the aid of Patrick, who has been transformed into a balloon.

The Cosmic Shake is being developed by Purple Lamp Studios, who had previously developed the title SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated (2020).Conceptualized as a spiritual sequel to Rehydrated, the project was greenlit following the commercial success of that game. While Battle for Bikini Bottom had three playable characters, SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy, each with one or more special abilities, Purple Lamp decided to have only one playable character in SpongeBob, who has multiple special abilities in The Cosmic Shake. Unlockable costumes have been made a core focus of the game.

THQ Nordic first announced the game in September 2021, as a part of its tenth-anniversary showcase. THQ Nordic unveiled a new trailer featuring gameplay at the end of their games showcase in August 2022. A playable demo of the game was presented at Gamescom 2022. Later in September, during a Nintendo Direct presentation, it was revealed that the game would release in 2023.

The game is scheduled for release on January 31, 2023, on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A limited physical edition, the "BFF Edition", will be available on all platforms, and includes a SpongeBob statue, an inflatable Patrick, an amulet with necklace, miniature bouncing balls, placemats, "Costume Pack" DLC, and a special box.
