Spot: The Video Game - Atari ST "7 Up Board Game"
Spot the Video Game is a puzzle / strategy game made by Virgin in 1990 for the Amiga, Atari ST, PC (DOS), Game Boy and NES. It was licenced by 7 Up as the game was originally supposed to be called 'Infection', before they slapped on the company mascot. Strangely Cool Spot wasn't even a mascot for 7 Up over here in Europe, so it's kind of odd that they bothered to bring it over here. It's the first of three Spot games that were released, with the platformer Cool Spot and Spot Goes to Hollywood appearing on a bunch of other platforms.
So how do you play the game? Well the idea is to fill up the board with more coloured disks than your opponent. When you click on an empty space on the grid, it adds a new disk onto the board if it is adjacent to one of your existing disks. If it is two cells away then the disk moves to that slot. Now the reason why you do this is because if you land your disk adjacent to one of your opponent's then all of their disks next to yours will turn into your colour and vice versa. It's very similiar to the board game Reversi.
I really do like this game a lot more than what I thought I would. It's a suprisingly strategic game and the AI is quite willing to give you a challenge. It's well worth a look if you like your board games.
