SPOTLIGHT: NHL 16 Review

Hey everyone, this is K1NGxAD1O, giving you all a quick review on EA’s NHL 16, the newest addition to the NHL series. First off, when recording NHL gameplay, for some reason all the sound gets cut out of the footage, so I apologize for that ahead of time. I thank you for tuning in for this SPOTLIGHT review, and hope you enjoy.
Now, if you played NBA Live 15 and 16, Madden 15 and 16, or FIFA 15 and 16, you will have noticed that EA has changed up some of the controls on each of the new versions. NHL 16 is no exception to this thought process, as many of the button controls for the game have been altered and swapped to provide a new approach to the NHL series. I personally like the new controls better, but that’s just my personal preference. Many viewers I have talked to about the new EA Sports games tell me they hate the controls, or can’t get used to them, so it’s every person’s comfort that determines whether the control adjustment was a good idea or not.
In terms of gameplay, NHL 16 does an amazing job of keeping you in the action. It’s smooth, fluid, and always moving, relying on the player to keep their eyes open for whatever may happen next. For those of you that aren’t interested in hockey, or don’t know the game but watch the sport instead, this game is very fast paced, with little progress on the scoreboard to show for it. What I mean is, for my hockey fans, the scores change about as quickly as they do in real life. For those of you who have no idea what I’m even talking about, in the simplest way possible, expect to be passing around that puck for quite a while before taking the lead, and don’t hope to hit double digits on the board. That’s not bad game design, that’s just how hockey is, and NHL 16 does an excellent job recreating the realistic feel of an actual hockey game. The graphics are also very good, as would be expected from any EA Sports game out now, and they even have live action commentators in the match as well, which gives the game a realistic feel and really brings the game to life.
There’s also an option to turn on these overhead help tips, which are great for players new to the NHL series, but also provide excellent support for returning users that want a crash course in the new controller layout. I keep them on because I occasionally find myself trying to use the old controls and end up spinning around in circles on the back ice or something, so those are very helpful when trying to grow accustomed to the game.
Now, the best part of hockey is dropping those gloves. It always has been, and always will be. However, don’t expect to jump into the game and start brawls right off the bat. I found it really difficult to actually get a swinging match started, as the AI kinda blows it off for a while. The key here is to keep with it, and piss them off by trying to fight to the point that they go for it and you start duking it out. I’ve tried in multiple games to get something started early on, and it’s just not happening. So be patient, body check everybody, and the magic will follow shortly thereafter.
Alright guys, that’s all I’ve got for this review. I appreciate you watching, and I would greatly appreciate if you’d hit that Like button to let me know you enjoyed the review, as well as nailing down on that Subscribe button to show your support and help the channel continue to grow. I was stuck in a plateau recently, but I think we’ve managed to break free of that, so share, subscribe, share again, and show anyone around you what we’ve got going on here, because each and every view, like, and subscription gets me one step closer to that immaculate goal I’m working for. So thanks for watching; I enjoy doing these videos, I want to keep doing it. Make sure you’re subscribed and come back for more. I’ll see you in the next one.
