Spy Vs Sniper Time And Effort Comparison TF2
To explain what happened:
In order for the sniper to kill me, he needed to spend a few seconds walking from spawn to his teams backline. He then needed to wait until someone (me) showed up, before scoping in and head shotting me in a fraction of a second. He only needed to land a single shot, during which I not only couldn’t see him, but couldn’t deal damage to him or react to any of his actions. If he missed, he could try again a split second later at zero penalty.
In order for me (as a spy) to kill the sniper, I need to spend a full minute travelling behind the entire enemy team, avoiding all of them. There is a massive amount of risk involved in this, and I need to optimise my loadout for travelling across the battlefield undetected. Once I get close to the sniper, I backstab him. Had he turned around at any point during this, he could’ve easily quickscoped me or meleed me to death. If I missed the backstab, the sniper would be alerted to my presence and I likely would’ve been killed by him or his team.
After I get a single stab on the sniper, he equips the Razorback. I can now no longer backstab the sniper, effectively nullifying all the time and effort I spent making my way behind his team. My only option is to use my revolver. Since I am using the letranger, I will need to land 3-4 consecutive hits on the sniper, without him or any of his teammates killing me. At any point during this, the sniper can once again turn around and quickscope me, accomplishing the same result as what I’m trying to achieve but for far less time and effort. Had I been using something such as the ambassador, I would have a somewhat easier time killing the sniper, but a far more difficult time getting behind him since I’d be missing out on the l’étrangers cloak based buffs. Even when I’m in a position to headshot the sniper, I still need to land 2 shots on a target who can juke and dodge freely at very little penalty to his own accuracy (since the sniper rifle has no scope sway), again, during which he can turn around and quickscope me.
And apparently, it’s perfectly acceptable for a spy to have to put in vastly more time and effort into getting a single pick than a sniper, because “quickscoping requires skill”.
