Jacques is made up of multiple, volcanic, floating islands. The ground here is made up of rock with grass growing on the top of it. Some of the ground is elevated, making normal entrance impossible, so the only way up to these parts are by solving the tricky puzzles of the Clock Fools who cowardly run to escape. These will raise pedestals, but hurry up! These pedestals will retract back down if you're too slow! The other population of this realm are nightmarish monsters that are protecting the realm with all they've got. Hidden in the mountains is a secret passage where a dragon named Unika was trapped. Here clock fools are once again are at their trickery, but this time they activate receding platforms, that leads to Gems. To the left are many pedestals holding Giant Pansies. In other areas of this nightmarish realm are Pansies and Horrors standing on small floating plots of land. Around this realm are castle pieces, with the main part of the structure being the entrance to Jacques's boss fight.

Jacques's boss arena is made up of a series of floating platforms that gradually get higher. Were you to fall from one of these platforms, you would hit the lava down below! The background of this realm is dark blue with orange, lava mountains in the skyline.

Spyro is known for being courageous, headstrong, eager and arrogant. He has an immutable sense of heroism, friendliness, and has a fiery personality. He has little concern for his own safety and can be irresponsible at times, being extremely curious and hardly ever cautious, which could get him into trouble. Spyro gets into lots of mischief and is known to be cocky, a trait that can lead to his downfall. He has become much more arrogant after the events of Spyro: Year of the Dragon, and in more recent outings, has actually denied help to those who did not expressly indicate that they would award him. Despite this, he still saves the world, even if it is not willingly.

Background
As told in an interview with Sparx by the DNN (Dragon News Network), some details of Spyro's past are known. Sparx used to crawl around Spyro's egg when he was a larvae. There was peace in the Dragon Realms during this time.

However, unknown to the Dragons, three thieves were running off with two eggs. One was a dragon egg while the other was a dragonfly egg. Suddenly, the Dragons discovered the thieves who ran off and they dropped the eggs. The red dragon egg became hot, as if something was on fire from the inside. Spyro hatched from the red egg and Sparx hatched from the yellow egg. Spyro is in fact an Artisan Dragon and may have been born in Stone Hill, as the opening and ending cutscenes are both set in Stone Hill.

Plot
During the intro, a news team sets up an interview with a couple of dragons within the Artisan World, one of five realms in the Dragon Kingdom (the others of which include Peace Keepers' world, Magic Crafters, Beast Makers, and Dream Weavers) which have lived in harmony for years. When the reporter asks about Gnasty Gnorc, a gnorc who lives within his own, sixth realm, one of the dragons describes him as an ugly, simple minded creature who poses no threat to the Dragon Kingdom. However, Gnasty is watching the live feed from his home world and, enraged, uses a magic spell to encase all dragons in crystal and sends out his hordes of gnorc soldiers. One dragon, Spyro, is able to dodge the attack due to his short stature compared to the other, much larger dragons. Aided by his dragonfly companion, Sparx, Spyro vows to rescue his dragon brethren and defeat Gnasty Gnorc once and for all. He visits each of the dragon realms in sequence, freeing trapped dragons, collecting treasure, and rescuing dragon eggs from pesky thieves within each realms' portal worlds before facing realm bosses.
