Simco/Ramic was dependent on timber processing for revenue. In the late 80's increased environmental concerns saw a reduction in timber processing revenue and the company begin looking for other ways to leverage their knowledge of industrial computers, optical devices and custom software design. This resulted in several optical sorting product lines and eventually a name change to SRC Vision.
One of the things that impressed me was the use of spectrophotometry to identify spectra of defect material and using that data to design custom lamps to produce light of that spectra to aid in differentiation.
