STACKING: Good, Bad & UGLY! FOMO is real!
74#silverstacking #goldpurchases This video shows many of my purchase receipts for gold and silver from 2011 through 2020. As you will see, I have paid as much as $49.23 per ounce for silver, and admittedly did so due to FOMO, or the "fear of missing out." In 2011 I simply got sucked in to buying silver as it was going up, up, up. I continued to buy for a time as silver lost its shirt. I convinced myself it would go back up soon! Fortunately, I didn't buy hundreds of ounces - only 10 here and 20 there, but buying at such high prices made it so I have to sell at $25/ounce just to make a little profit with all of the other purchases in the $16-$20 range. At one point, I paid over $850 for a tube of American Silver Eagles!
Gold, on the other hand, has performed very well for me. Although I have recently stopped buying all precious metals, you can see that I have paid as little as roughly $1,339 per ounce not all that long ago. The fact that I have stopped buying all precious metals leads me to believe I am cured of my FOMO, but I hope others will watch this video and avoid buying on fear, and instead use solid, unemotional reasoning in making your purchases. Silver may or may not be a good deal right now. Only time will tell. All I know is what I have seen from 2011-2020. Gold wins, and has not disappointed!
Nobody likes to show the bad deals they've made. I feel I'm being completely transparent here in showing my receipts over time. Not all of my purchases have been good deals, and some of them have been flat out awful. Live and learn. I have still bought silver in the $15-$20 range and I think it's just fine to do so, but never again will I buy silver above $20/ounce for stacking purposes. I will still buy collector pieces and certain items for my perma-stack or to flip, but I'm done stacking where spot + premiums exceed $20. Am I a fool? Again, time will tell.
