S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a open world (yet instanced) first person shooter launched in 2007, developed by GSC Game World. It came out after many years of development hell and several cuts, as the project was way too ambitious. It had a rocky launch and is deemed as a buggy game, but the test of time turned it into a cult classic, with its uniqueness and unparalelled atmosphere making up for its uninteresting first impression. The community kept it relevant over all these years with amazing mods that take the game not even to its initial envision, but way further.
It takes place in Chernobyl exclusion zone where really weird things start to happen after a second catastrophe... Mutants, physics-defying anomalies, and strange artifacts that are target of hunting and investigation as they have special properties. Several factions with conflicting interests fight in the zone, and in the middle of the conflict are the Stalkers, which just explore The Zone looking for fortune, and maybe reaching the heart of The Zone, where it is said the Wish Granter will... well, grant them a wish. You are one of those Stalkers, who has lost his memory after an accident, the only thing you know is that your mission is to kill one Stalker called Strelok.
I love S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to bits, and I was hesitant to bring it into the channel because there are long walks and parts where nothing is happening and it might be a bit boring to watch. But in the end, with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 finally becoming real, I decided to go for it. I use Complete 2009 mod for a bit more of eye candy, bugfixing, realistic weapon names and even AI tweaks... But it respects the story and gameplay from the original game. It is the perfect mod to revisit the game if you are already familiar with it. It is played in the Master difficulty because it is the only way to make the weapons reliable, lower difficulty makes enemie's weapons less accurate... And yours too!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl es un shooter en primera persona de mundo abierto lanzado en 2007 y desarrolado por GSC Game World. Vio la luz después de muchos años en un infierno de desarrollo y sufrir recortes, ya que era demasiado ambicioso. Tuvo un lanzamiento complicado y está considerado como un juego con bastantes bugs, pero el tiempo lo ha tratado bien y lo ha convertido en un juego de culto, su genuinuidad e inigualable atmósfera compensan su poco interesante primera impresión. La comunidad lo ha mantenido relevante todos estos años con increíbles mods que no sólo han llevado el juego a alcanzar su visión original, sino llevarlo mucho más allá.
Tiene lugar en la zona de exclusión de Chernobyl, después de que empiecen a pasar cosas realmente raras tras una segunda catástrofe... Mutantes, anomalías que desafían a la física, y extraños artefactos que son objeto de deseo e investigación por su propiedades especiales. Varias facciones con intereses opuestos pelean en La Zona, y en medio de ese conflicto están los Stalkers, que exploran La Zona en busca de fortuna, y tal vez llegar al corazón de la misma, donde se rumorea que podrán pedir un deseo. Eres uno de esos Stalkers, que ha perdido su memoria después de un accidente, sólo sabes que tu misión es matar a un Stalker llamado Strelok.
Amo S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:, y era reluctante a traerlo al canal porque hay muchas caminatas, y partes en las que no ocurre nada y puede ser un poco aburrido verlo sin comentarios. Pero al final, con S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 a punto de aterrizar, he decidido ir a por ello. He usado el mod Complete 2009 para mejores visuales, arreglar bugs, nombres realistas para las armas, e incluso arreglos en la IA... Pero respeta historia y gameplay del original. Es el mod perfecto para revisitar este juegazo si ya estás faimiliarizado con él. Está jugado en dificultad master porque es la única forma de que las armas sean fiables, menor dificultad implica que las armas de los enemigos sean menos certeras... Y las tuyas también!
