StarDrive 2 is a 4X game that was recently given it's full release on Steam, I've played it over the course of about 2 weeks to playtest it and check out the way it runs in comparison to the many other 4X type games I've looked at (Endless Space, Galactic Civilizations 3, Civilization: BE etc...).

*Spoiler Warning* I do show some of the end game content, including the last 'boss' type encounter from the main plotline. If you want to avoid the main 'give-away' I've provided a warning so you can avoid this part. I will possibly do a few more videos on this game in the future.

I'll do videos on the other games for comparison, but, out of the ones I've tested, I have to admit to liking this one more for one main reason; the space combat. It's probably the most important part of these types of games and they all tend to adopt a turn based combat system, this is where StarDrive 2 stands above them with a real time space combat system, that is truly spectacular!

StarDrive 2 isn't perfect, the Ground based combat needs polishing in my opinion and for the large end game space conflicts you'll need a beast of a PC if you want to avoid frame loss and sound distortion. Also the lack of multiplayer may stump its long-term playability, this may be addressed in a patch or sequel. However, the space combat, overall design, functionality, music and most importantly the space combat; make up for the problems and make this game unique and different from the other 4X type games on the offering.

Time Stamping:
I'll give timestamps for the two space battles I show during the video (both show end game class ships aka Battleships and Titans), the first starts around 26:20
The second battle starts at about 33:50 and contains the final 'boss' fight from the main plotline of the game, the game doesn't end at this point as you can continue on to conqueror/subdue the rest of the galaxy.

Audio intact, another thing I should mention is the music, which works very well in line with the gameplay and atmosphere of the game.
