I wasn't sure how long it would take to complete the "dungeon" sections of the game, and I didn't know how long the average length of each Star Fox Adventures video should be at the time. That is why Dark Ice Mines is split into two parts. It turned out later to not be necessary.

I begin by exploring the entrance area. First you need to get a key to unlock the shackle on the SnowHorn prisoner. Then you can place the Gear in the mechanism so that you can save the other SnowHorn from being beaten. After finding Alpine Roots for him to regain his strength, you can ride him and break through the gates. Next you need to make it to the Cannon so that you can destroy all the barricades and kill all SharpClaw that come out of the building. From here, explore until you find all three Gears for the next mechanism to extend another bridge. This allows you to reach a cave where you will find the Dinosaur Horn. (Odd, because Mammoths are not Dinosaurs) Use the horn to call a SnowHorn to take you through the blizzard to the actual mine entrance. After a short speeder ride, I finally make it to the mines.
