3To get Opera just do exactly what I do you see unlike the PS1 or PSP version you don't need to worry about a specific to see the 3 eyed man it is shown to you automatically which is really nice.
Opera is awesome her attack are mostly long range which are great for fighting flying enemies but to make better weapons or clips you need to go to engineering you can even learn new special attacks I got her to learn healing shot off screen.
Now if you want Ernest don't leave the mountain palace after getting opera beat the boss then go all the way down to the study area.
Lastly watch a cutscene in serene forest if you don't do this then you won't get Ernest later BUT if you only want Opera then just ignore the event it goes away as soon as you go to linga.
If you did all that then just carry on with the story and you will Ernest.
AS for the boss......I died a few times the trick is break the leaders guard as soon as possible then kill the weaker one also don't be afraid to use those frontal assaults to do extra damage and change your formation to give you better bonus as well.
Next the Ruddle side quest it's very easy and the reward is really useful just do what i do and you should be fine the sum slayer kills any enemy that has the word scum in them like the scumbag bandits.
As for Welch she is also missable but very easy to get again don't go to linga then after the tournament activate a PA and cross the bridge to the castle and that's it BUT here's the thing you need at least 4 or more party members that's why I got Opera first otherwise she won't join you but I refused anyway because I want someone else LOL!
PS:Next time we finally go Linga and get another party member note that if you have Ashton then you can't get Opera and Ernest.
One more thing: If you did the Ashton side quest instead then you would fight a boss called nightmare followed by another boss here is a link below on someone else actually doing just that.
