Star Trek: Bridge Commander - USS Aries (Minow Class)
Today's Starship Spotlight is the USS Aries. The Aries is a small, fast, and minimally armed, with oversized nacelles. The ships small profile helps minimize it's target and sensor profile. It can do science, especially if
the research is clandestine, or observing a prewarp civilization. It has no torpedo tubes. It can be operated with an unusually small crew compliment, allowing for long range and long term operations, or worse, "expendable" operations. As the ship reached the end of it's operational life time, it became
popular as an academy trainer and civilian science operations due to it's ease of operation, to the point that a civilian agency acquired the design and began building them over 50 years after the class was retired by Starfleet, who bought some of them for colony programs.
