Star Wars Battlefront VR : Beggars Canyon Using Head Tracking to take down TIES 1080p SBS 3D
So after 4 decades of gaming I am totally nonplussed with advances in UI, I can usually see through experience their weak points.. fatigue being killer Oculus Touch and Leap Motion limiters for instance...In VR gaming we need to have UI and HMDs that are tolerated by users not just hand picked mouth open for pics promoters, the HMD I use here at 160g is still too heavy for the average user to play a sustained session of a game, likewise for a surgeon to operate or teach...but it is still best in class for user tolerance. Which means it lets me use SWBF's Beggar's Canyon to test head tracking tolerance as a UI on a "light" weight HMD, the head tracker here weighs 8g and attaches to the HMD ..so unlike my fighter squadron testing with the Xbox One and Oculus Rift where I use head tracking for panning the screen on a 379g brick phone of a HMD ( the form factor of ALL FOV2GO derived HMDs) I actually get to track TIES and target them all screen movements here are using the tracker. Eventually devs will learn to tweak this type of UI. This is tolerable on a 160g HMD modelled on a pair of shades, one I can connect anything to and play anything on...including your console or phone games without having to strap either to your face and sweat into that obnoxious foam...or log on to some walled garden app for the privilege. One usage scenario represents HMD promotion and is due to go the way of the Dodo and the other VR evolution....which is which ? Well whatever the PR , or the very expensive lecture you just paid to attend/give says ...the users will decide... .. if you had your head stuck up a steaming phablet with some tween telling you what VR is for the last 4 years...as they say in the world of Star Wars clichés... there is another hope ....unless you've already started down that dark path....forever it will dominate your destiny... speaking of which you can watch this video on your Storm Trooper white Gear VR and Zeiss VR One or PSVR , Sith Black Oculus Rift and or the king of FOV2GO HMDs and goto VR device for droids Google Cardboard. Not forgetting Magic Leap and Hololens users ...
