Well, I was curious to see how is the PS1 version of Dark Forces. For this I use the DuckStation emulator, the compatibility score with this game is 5/5, so it should be a practically perfect emulation and run the same as on the console. I haven't set any graphic enhancement, anyway DuckStation doesn't allow to increase the resolution of the games with Doom style engines (raycasting or similar), there is a way to force it from the options, but then graphic bugs occur. I have only added the "lottes" scanlines filter that comes with the emulator, which gives a similar look to how it would look on a CRT of its time (I recommend watching the video in fullscreen).

In general I was surprised that it is practically the same game technically as the PC version (at least as far as I've seen), maybe a little less resolution. Normally these games suffered some cut in PS1 (and consoles in general) with respect to the PC version. But there is something bad, the framerate is sometimes too low, dropping even below 10 fps. As DuckStation allows to "overclock" the emulated CPU of the console, I do it in 18:28, so it runs at 60 fps. An advantage of the emulator over the console.

Otherwise, differences I noticed during this gameplay (I haven't played it longer, there may be more, as different or deleted missions):

-Pre-recorded cinematics from the PC version, with less quality.
-The resolution seems a bit lower than the original PC MS-DOS.
-The music is CD audio instead of midi, it has more sound quality, but on the other hand it is not interactive (it does not have the iMUSE engine of the original).

In conclusion, although it's a good version, having the PC version, there is no reason to play this one, and even less when we can now play it in the best form thanks to The Force Engine port (see my longplay in the channel).
