8"Star Wars: Death Star Assault 3D" is 2006 video game published by THQ Wireless for mobile phones. The game recreates scenes from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, namely, the attacks on the first and second Death Stars.
Star Wars: Death Star Assault 3D is an arcade shooter video game for the J2ME platform, developed by HI Corp. and published by THQ Wireless on June 22, 2006.
Plot and Gameplay
Darth Vader is in pursuit of Luke Skywalker.
Players take control of the T-65 "X-wing" starfighter and later the "Millennium Falcon," using blaster fire to destroy Imperial forces while avoiding obstacles. If enemy ships get too close, players must slow down and let them pass (brake recharge takes time). After completing each level, players are assigned ranks (Cadet for 100%, Lieutenant for 110%, Captain for 120%, Commander for 130%, General for 140%); additional shields and brakes are awarded for defeating enemies beyond the required quota for that level.
Level 1
Destroy at least 20 TIE Fighters and survive for 2 minutes while approaching the Death Star.
Level 2
Destroy at least 20 TIE Fighters.
WARNING!!! Star Destroyers block your path. You must avoid their fire at all costs!
Level 3
Destroy at least 20 turbolasers and survive for 2 minutes while approaching the Death Star trench.
Level 4
Launch a proton torpedo into the thermal exhaust port to destroy the Death Star!
Level 5
Star Destroyers Collision DS3D
You must provide cover for at least 15 Y-wings and survive for 4 minutes.
Level 6
Destroy at least 30 TIE Fighters while your allies attack the "Executioner."
Level 7
Destroy at least 30 turbolasers and survive for 2 minutes while approaching the entrance to the reactor chamber.
Level 8
Fight your way to the main reactor of the second Death Star and destroy it!
Technical Features
The game is developed using the Mascot Capsule technology—a programming interface for creating 3D applications on J2ME SE; games using this technology were exclusively released for Sony Ericsson phones. This technology allowed for higher polygon models, dynamic shading, and double the texture resolution in games.
Reviews
Players praised the game for its ship models and detailed textures of the vehicles and the surface of the Death Star, as well as the interesting effect of starfield blur during movement and smooth scrolling. However, some noted the gameplay could be somewhat monotonous, overly simplistic, and the music was mediocre.
