The maximum landing area is 3. The 4th landing will remove the first landing area.

To keep the landing area, drop an outpost. To remove, delete an outpost. If the landing area stays, it means that the landing area is a bug.

To avoid it, revert to the previous save game, the same for any other bug. If you try to remove it again, it will be unsuccessful.

If successful after the second attempt. Then try not to land in a similar or near the bug landing area. It is randomly generated, however.

So it is best to do a quick save or manual save before attempting to land.
