Golden Axed is a 2.5D reboot of Golden Axe that was in development by SEGA Studios Australia early in the 2010s as part of the SEGA Reborn series of remakes that also included 2.5D reboots for Altered Beast and Streets of Rage. However, SEGA Studios Australia was shutdown in 2013, and these projects were cancelled. During the celebration of Sega's 60th anniversary, a working prototype of the Golden Axe remake, dubbed Golden Axed due to being an axed project, became available for free on Steam on October 18, 2020 for one day so fans could enjoy it. It consists of a single level that was created as proof-of-concept.
