A new feature in SteamVR beta 1.17.2 are dockable window captures, meaning you can select a window off your desktop and have it as separate overlays in the dashboard or attached to your controllers.

The interface for it is very basic for now at least, and I would love a bit more customization, especially for position, but it works well enough and even shows which windows are captured with a yellow frame. Neat!

Edit: Apparently you can click and drag the icons for captures if they are more than two, so it should still be possible to access the other ones that way, I have not had time to try this yet.
