"Step-by-Step: Integrating DLSS and FSR into Skyrim Special Edition - Complete Guide"
In this video I cover how to add support for Nvidia DLSS / DLAA, AMD FSR & Intel XeSS in Skyrim Special Edition using the Skyrim Upscaler mod.
This mod requires using the Skyrim Special Edition script extender, meaning it will only work with the Steam version of Skyrim Special Edition, and not the version included as part of Microsoft Game Pass.
Step 1. Install Skyrim Special Edition Script Extender (SKSE).
http://skse.silverlock.org/
You can download the latest version of SKSE from the official website, just make sure that you choose the correct version for your installation.
Once the download has finished, extract the archive, take a copy of the files and folders inside the extracted folder and paste these files and folders into the game’s installation directory.
In most cases, this will be located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition
I recommend creating a shortcut to the skse64_loader.exe file so you can load the game with the script extender enabled.
Step 2. Install Dependencies & Chose an Upscaling Method.
The Skyrim Upscaler mod has two hard dependencies that need to be installed for it to work.

The first is the Address Library for SKSE Plugins mod.
To download this, on the mod page, click on the Files tab and download the version that matches your installation of Skyrim.
Once downloaded, extract the folder, and copy the SKSE sub folder to a selected directory, for example, the Downloads folder.

The second dependency is the Upscaler Base Plugin mod.
Once again, to download this, click on the Files tab, and download the download the latest version using the Manual Download option.
After the download has finished, extract the archive, and move the UpscalerBasePlugin folder to the same directory as the SKSE folder.
Next, select what upscaling technology you wish to use with Skyrim.
For example, if you have an Nvidia GPU, specifically a 20, 30 or 40 series, then you will want the DLSS / DLAA option.
Alternatively, if you have an AMD GPU, you option would be FSR, and for Intel GPU, then XeSS.
Technically you can also use FSR for all three GPU manufacturers, but in the case for Nvidia, DLSS is far superior in most cases.
You can find download links for all these libraries at the bottom of the Description tab of the UpscalerBasePlugin mod page if you scroll down.
Once you have downloaded the required libraries, extract the archive, and copy the DLLs inside the UpscalerBasePlugin folder.
Step 3. Install The Skyrim Upscaler Mod.
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/80343?tab=description
Now that Skyrim Upscaler mod dependencies have been installed, and an upscaling method chosen, the Skyrim Upscaler Mod can be installed.
To install it, click on the Files tab, and download the latest build using the Manual Download option.
Once downloaded, extract the archive, and then copy the SKSE folder into the working folder again.
From here, take a copy of the SKSE and UpscalingBasePlugin folders, and paste both into the game’s data folder.
In most cases, this will be located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data
You will get a prompt to overwrite files, so confirm yes.
At this point, everything is installed and ready to go.
Step 4. Using The Skyrim Upscaler Mod.
Whilst in game, if you press the END key, it will bring up the Skyrim Upscaler Settings menu.
From here, you can enable or disable the upscaling, sharpen the image, or select the Upscaling Type you wish to apply, in my case, I have the option of using DLSS or DLAA.
If you select DLSS, you can also change the Quality Level from Performance, Balanced, Quality and UltraPerformance, although in most cases, I tend to stick with Balance.
Alternatively, if you have chosen FSR or XeSS as your upscaling method, then you will see similar options.
Once you are happy with your settings, close the window.
In terms of performance, at least on my system, I have not found it has made much difference, since Skyrim is quite an old game at this point, but if you have several high-resolution texture packs installed, it may be the difference between an unplayable experience and a playable one.
That been said, I do recommend that if you have a modern Nvidia GPU, to enable DLAA as this does make the game look crisper.
