A playthrough of Capcom's 1995 interactive movie for the Sony PlayStation, Street Fighter II Movie.

This video is a playthrough of the main "Game Mode." Since the game never saw an international release, I've subtitled the video in English. I used a subtitle track ripped from one of the Blu-Ray releases as the base for the translation of the film's dialogue, and I did the translations for the new-for-the-game FMV segments and the text elements myself. Please note that there is no way to play the game in English. I did all of this with overlays in a video editor.

Street Fighter II Movie (ストリートファイター II MOVIE) is a PlayStation/Saturn FMV game based on the 1994 anime film that was known in the west as Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.

Though their names are similar, "Street Fighter II Movie" is not directly related to the "Street Fighter: The Movie" (Street Fighter: Real Battle on Film) games that were based on the 1994 live-action film.

You can see those here:

In SF2M, you play as a Shadaloo-built "monitor cyborg" that is sent to spy on powerful fighters the world over. Bison (called Vega in Japan) uses the cyborg to collect data on these fighters' techniques in hopes of creating an ultimate warrior that'll enable him to carry out his plans for world domination.

Capcom marketed Street Fighter II Movie as an "interactive movie," and while that's technically true, the label is a bit misleading. The game is mostly made up of watching the (heavily edited, badly compressed) movie and clicking a crosshair on the screen to log data from fighting moves.

Each time you record something, you increase your cyborg's related fighting stats. If you snap Ryu dodging a kick, the cyborg's agility stat will increase, while capturing Ryu's hurricane kick will add points to the cyborg's special move rating.

These stat increases determine the cyborg's abilities when you take direct control of him for the final fight. During the finale, you'll take on Ryu in a single-round 1-on-1 fight that runs on a modified version of the Super Street Fighter II Turbo engine, and which of the three endings you'll see is determined by the outcome (winning with a perfect, winning after taking a few hits, or a loss). I show the perfect ending in this video.

And that's about all there is to Street Fighter II Movie. There's not much substance or gameplay, you don't get any chances to direct the story until the very end, and the video quality is substantially worse than you'd see from a VHS copy of the film, but it is a neat novelty that seems to go totally unnoticed by fans of the series, and because of that, I wanted to shine a spotlight on it.

I hope you enjoy the translation!

(Please note that some edits were made to avoid copyright issues. Nothing of substance was cut, but I did have to trim a few scenes to avoid the video being outright blocked.)
