Streets of Rage 2 Hardest Playthrough
This one is kind of funny. After doing the first game playthrough, I watched some video to see anything I could really improve on, which the throw cancel was pretty nice. Not overall what would have saved me in the first, since I went back and usually the same cheese would get me. Lovely on the twins though.
Streets of Rage 2 changes it up on that and is not a huge open window to do so, but it pretty easy to pull off, with real issues really being when hitting someone else, then the timing gets pushed off due to the slowdown that occurs when hitting someone.
This one has similar issues, but the enemies don't all try to abuse it as much, they're more docile. The bigger issue I ran into here was people just outright ignoring hits for what seems like no genuine reason. While it could occur in the first game a little bit, this game embraces hiding garbage behind the actual playing area and can cheap shot you a lot, especially purposeful set pieces that just steal hp.
Some bosses get an upgrade like the wrestler, but his tactics carry over to the fliers now. Sometimes, especially through all my playthroughs, the AI like changes its mind on how it wants to work. they'll just take the hits or throws one game, the next they're always the counter or block/ignore. Once they lose that first time invincibility frames though, they have a bad time.
This one felt like a slog going from 1 to 2, since the game is more pushed in for GRAPHICS! but got used to it by game two. I hate the weapons with a passion in this one, grabbing something you don't want is like half your hp gone in most situations, which really sucks if someone drops something you're killing and they stop you with a weapon pickup.
Considering what happened in one and that this game slightly improves on it with the AI, overall decrease damage and better player hitboxes, I didn't really think Hardest was gonna happen, but it actually felt easier then Hard, since the point value gives you more lives to use and it didn't really change enough to be super challenging.
Max was ok. His speed can be a real detriment, I usually slide around if needed. Due to how the throwing is in this game, needing to merge into one being, he is actually quite the pain to use as a thrower. His slow attack speed can easily lead him into getting stomped out in comparison to the others. 3rd fave to use.
Axel is the broken character I'd say. Feels the best to use, you can go smoothly into his special, it can hit for a good amount of damage, great for countering the bosses, later lock them up. Throw is half bad, probably wouldn't have happened without him. 1st.
Blaze sucks. If she is too close, she leaps over enemies with her special, doesn't have immune frames and can be punched out of it and her overall damage is lacking, despite having a 2 star, meaning they're worth as much as the first game. It's not too common to just get slapped around with her. She also throws enemies too high and they miss hitting the units they go through. 5th
Skate is interesting. I genuinely hate having to run to use his dash special, since it comes out really clunky. His throws are pretty awesome though and his speed allows you to do so quite easily. Being able to throw and it hits pretty well, can help quite a lot indeed. Standard punch is ok. 2nd
This one made me mad with its bs at times, but was better then the first for me.
