Strider 2 is the sequel to the highly successful 1989 game, Strider. It was first released on arcade in 1999. One year later, a home port version was released for the PlayStation One. Interestingly, this is the second sequel to the 1989 Strider game, as a previous sequel (not directly made by Capcom) was made in 1990 by TierTex and US.Gold titled "Strider Returns". However, this particular game has no associations to the 1990 US gold game (Ref: Wikipedia).
Storywise, Strider 2 is set 2000 years after the first game. The evil GrandMaster has returned from the dead and now rules the future world with absolute tyranny and fear, plunging the world into darkness and despair. Yet, an incarnation of the Strider Hiryu, the fabled warrior that defeated the GrandMaster those many years ago, has emerged and sets out to destroy the Grand Master, once and for all.
