In this mission, we need to hold off against enemy attack. Your first real defense mission starts here. Archers will be your bread and butter unit for the entire game (as well as in Stronghold 2, 3). Your primary source of food in this mission is dairy farms, which can be built in farmable land (green terrain) or non arable land (yellow terrain).

Practice making defensive lines and placing ramparts on them. Creating multiple Great Walls of China helps curb the enemy advance and makes your position much harder to defeat.

The sign post is where enemy troops will appear in the map to invade your castle. Take note of this when positioning your walls and defensive lines.
