Suikoden first playthrough 9/4/22 stream - you like recruiting?
This is my fifth stream of my Suikoden playthrough. I was sick while I was playing this and am still currently sick as I fill in this description! It's been rough but I'll be better soon! In this stream, a lot happens really quickly. I start by exploring a little bit and take Tai Ho and Yam Koo over to the pirate hideout to the easy of our new castle because in the last stream they asked Tai Ho about his younger brother. Unfortunately, doing this doesn't lead to anything yet. All it did was change one of the pirate's dialogues.
After this I head back to the castle and pick up Sansuke in place of Tai Ho, then take him and Yam Koo to get some gear and level them up in the Great Forest area. I learn later on the reason why Sansuke can't attack is because he's got a short-range weapon as indicated by the letter by the arms type in their status page. I hadn't put any thought into the arms type but now understand how that all works. Obviously short has to be in the front row while medium and long-range can be in the back. So I end up having Sansuke in the back the whole time and end up going through Lepant's house with essentially five characters because of that.
To get into Lepant's house, we meet Krin, who is supposedly a thief. He explains to you that there's two things Lepant cares about more than anything that we can use to get Lepant's attention because he won't let anyone into his house. The first is his wife, Eileen and the second is his prized sword the Kirinji. The party agrees to steal the sword and Krin sets up a rope to break into Lepant's house from the roof.
Lepant's house as a whole is a short and simple dungeon with a small stealth section where you get sent back to the prior room if you go in the line of sight of the robots. There's lots of chests here and anyone that knows me knows I love that free loot! We meet Juppo at the end before the luck wheel and he explains that he can disable the robots but not the wheel unfortunately. Yes, very unfortunate Juppo! After getting passed the luck wheel which took quite a few tries, it spits us out into a hallway that leads to the room holding the Kirinji. The party takes the sword and leaves the house, only to to be very quickly confronted by Lepant in the inn because Krin told him that the party took the sword.
Shortly after this, Lepant is informed that his wife Eileen has been taken hostage by Kraze, one of the imperial officers that you meet at the beginning of the game. He dispatches a group on soldiers on our friends that is easily aoe'd down. He then threatens to hurt Eileen, when Pahn returns and stops him. I was unsure of what the dialogue choice here was implicating because I was sick and wasn't thinking much about it, I mostly chose the thing that sounded the most negative because I've been doing that the whole playthrough as a joke, telling people no every time there's a choice. Hopefully I chose a good one here!
After all of this, Lepant and Eileen join the rebels as well as Juppo and Krin even though the game doesn't tell you about the last two. I head back to Castle of Toram to figure things out and check out the new party members, exploring and talking to everyone for fun. I set up a new party to level up when we run into Kirkis washed up on the dock. He warns us that the imperials are going to wipe out the elves and he wants the rebels' help. I set up a new party since Kirkis is mandatory now and decide to take Juppo with me so we can pick up Meg in Kaku along the way to the Great Forest.
Upon entering the forest Kirkis explains that the path is under a spell, and we need to follow him to go the right way. This basically just allows you to progress to the next step of the game, so we go through the path that has quite a bit of look along the way which is always good! Viki also randomly pops up, says some vague things, and asks to join the group. Okay sure! It's at this poiint that I start to wonder if there's repercussions to recruiting certain people or not. The party ends up in the Kobold village and Kuromimi shows up and explains that all his people were takin' away and they're sick. He takes off, so the party continues on to the forest area.
I explore a bit here and check out encounters here in the forest and at the Dwarf path just to see what damage looks like, and it's rough. I eventually end up in the Elf Village where we run into Valeria who is quickly thrown in jail even though she's also trying to warn the elves about the imperial army. I pick up some magic robes here which are expensive! After this, we learn Kirkis left the village without permission and the elves hate humans. Pretty usual elf behavior! The party ends up being put in jail and is rescued by Sylvina. The rest of the stream is trying to grind Toe Shoes for Valeria that I didn't get!
