Suleiman The Magnificent was one of the most powerful and influential sultans of the Ottoman Empire. He ruled from 1520 to 1566 and expanded his domain through military conquests and diplomatic alliances.
He captured the strategic city of Belgrade in 1521, securing the Ottoman control over the Balkans and the Danube River. He conquered the island of Rhodes in 1522, ending the threat of the Knights Hospitaller, a Christian military order. He defeated the Hungarian army at the Battle of Mohács in 1526, opening the way for the Ottoman invasion of Central Europe.
He besieged Vienna in 1529, but failed to take the city due to the resistance of the Holy Roman Empire and the onset of winter. He changed many rules on marriage and succession for the woman he loved. And he did unforgivable things to his sons and his best friend. What was his one defining moment?
