Tonight the Spotlight is a central mechanic, with Shadowgrounds! We take a look back at Frozenbyte's debut effort from 2005, and find the top-down sci-fi shooter holds up quite well. Standard in its premise and showing its age, the game nonetheless has a lot to recommend it: great level design, solid dark-and-stormy-night atmosphere, fitting music, and overall smart pacing for the action. And dang but those lighting effects still look nice, I still say that was some of the best shadow modeling of the era.
