This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my New 3DS XL using the aftermarket capture kit manufactured by Katsukity and installed/sold by Merki. I'm collecting all of the Star Medals in each level.

I decided to record a new playthrough of this game to get rid of the annoying stuttering issue from before. Also, this new footage should be sharper.

I purchased Super Mario 3D Land on its release date back in 2011 and beat the game within a month or so. This was the first big game that I picked up for the 3DS and it did a great job of providing my annual holiday adventure title.

In a way, Super Mario 3D Land was a wild idea based on its merging of the 2D and 3D Mario genres. This game was actually made because Nintendo thought 3D Mario games were too complex for 2D Mario fans, so Nintendo tried to simplify 3D Mario and incorporate 2D Mario elements (such as a flag pole), but to me the result is a bit mixed.

I enjoy this game a great deal, but the fixed camera angles and the slower movement speed don't feel as good as something like Super Mario Galaxy. In fact, I think it's downright ridiculous for a 3D Mario game to have a run button. That's what the analog stick is for.

Anyway, the platforming in this game is still excellent, and the music is pretty good too. The game also utilizes some neat 3D effects, but you obviously won't be able to see that in this playthrough.

It was a bit odd that Nintendo chose to bring back the Tanuki Suit for this game, especially since there's no flying here. Also, the Leaf did not give you the Tanuki Suit in Super Mario Bros. 3. It gave you Raccoon Mario. So that change is weird. Also, you can't even turn into a statue in this game until you obtain the Statue Leaf later in the game. But once you get that power-up it's really useful.

When it comes to 3D Mario, I prefer a design closer to Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy, but I still think this game is fun. Due to the shorter levels and better controls, I actually prefer this game to Super Mario 3D World, despite the latter's multiplayer.

Since I'll be collecting all of the Star Medals in this playthrough, you can treat this as a walkthrough or guide if you prefer. I'll also be uploading an entire world at a time.

In this first part I started a new save file and completed World 1.

Recorded with OBS Studio at 60 frames per second. I'm using a New 3DS XL.
