From what I remember this was the first big glitch to be found for this game back in 2004 when it was released.

The green shell here works a little differently than it would if you grabbed it while swimming. If you press the A button to try and throw the green shell it'll disappear as soon as it leaves Mario's hands. I also showed what happens when you get near the jet stream.

This does work on version 1.0 and 1.1, but it's much harder to do on 1.1.
