Super Mario 64 - Finale: We've Once, Twice, Three Times Blasted a Koopa King
In today's episode of the "Super Mario 64" playthrough, we complete the final level in the game, Bowser in the Sky, and defeat Bowser for the third and final time.
While I may not be too fond of Tiny-Huge Island, Tick Tock Clock, and Rainbow Ride, I'll admit that the final level, Bowser in the Sky, more than makes up for it due to it being a fair, straightforward level that puts your platforming skills to the test without a metric ton of fire or the camera acting up. Though arguably the best part of the level is the final boss fight against Bowser.
Sure, the fight is very similar to the previous two Bowser fights, but the epic organ music and the ominous aesthetic of the arena thanks to the green and reddish-purple color scheme gives off the vibe that Bowser's no longer messing around and he's playing for keeps, which also bleeds into how the fight plays out. For one thing, unlike the previous fights, in which you only have to throw Bowser into one mine, this time around, you have to throw him into three of them this time around and they don't respawn. So throughout the battle, in addition to dealing with Bowser's charge attack, shock waves, and fire that rains down from the sky, you have to strategically position him within range of the remaining mines so that way he can actually hit them when you throw him towards them. Seriously, you don't know how frustrating it can be to perfectly time your max speed throw, only to realize that you were too far away from the mine you were targeting. In addition, every time you miss a mine with your throw, Bowser will not only unleash a shockwave attack, but he'll also remove part of the arena until it's in the shape of a small star. But even if you manage to toss Bowser into the mines without a single miss, you won't be able to escape the smaller arena since he'll instantly shrink the arena once you land the second hit on him.
In regards to my next playthrough, the first episode of which will be uploaded this coming Friday, 8/11/23. In the meantime, from this Sunday, 8/6/23 to this Thursday, 8/10/23, I'll be uploading five remixes.
