I knew this star would be useful if I actually bothered to practice it. =) Remember to take your time, though - the burn at 0:44 wasn't exactly in my To-Do list. As for the shortcut, there's an angle you can launch at where you won't hit the bomb and easily reach the next sling pod, but I've only done it once. Ooh, another thing, although I get the feeling this is considered common sense by now - if you see/hear a Pull Star glowing, wait until it stops or else you'll just get pulled to it. It won't matter if your cursor is on it still or not - it'll pull you unless that sound stops.
