On August 3rd, 2020, I originally pulled off what I believed was an Albatross Tatanga fight on stream during a real time speedrun of the Any% Glitchless category. This is an accomplishment that only had not been done before, due to inhuman fireball mashing speeds. In the middle of the night on August 18th, some hours after I got a 26:43 personal best in Glitchless, I decided for fun to try and recreate the "Albatross" clip within BizHawk's TAS tools, using the Tatanga Analysis practice ROM patch to detail exactly how the fight went. I had no luck with replicating it 1:1. The original clip can be seen here: https://clips.twitch.tv/AliveResoluteRatSeemsGood

Now, on an early afternoon during August 18th, I'd like to show what the real Albatross Tatanga looks like in real-time, and the requirements to pull it off. Spoiler Alert: IT IS NOT RTA VIABLE WHATSOEVER!

The basic premise is that you need to hit Tatanga with 6 fireballs in the short time span of about 0.4 seconds, or a measured mashing speed of 17-18 hz. Reasonably in an average speedrun attempt, runners would try to shoot 2-4 fireballs at Tatanga within this timeframe, and then repeatedly stomp Tatanga to deal the rest of the hits to knock him out. With unreasonably fast mashing speeds, you can get 4-6 fireballs with the right timing. However, the only way you can get 4-5 fireballs reasonably on Tatanga would be to have both a mashing speed close to 12-13 hz, and delay a bit after the first fireball shot, meaning you'd need to mash faster than otherwise projected. Here, if you wanted to get 6 fireballs...you need to delay for about 0.14 seconds after the 1st fireball (or 8 frames rounded down to 59.7275fps), then press B a total of 5 times within the next 0.22 seconds or faster. The mashing speed you need to pull off what this video did is somewhere close to 19-20hz mashing, only doable in short bursts of time with specialized mashing techniques.

Simply put, this will never be doable in real time speedruns, as very few people can tap one button anywhere near the required speeds, and no one wants to risk it when the probability of replicating this is ungodly low. That being said, exercise your hands, and don't risk getting arthritis or RSI. Stay safe.
