After finding his way through the woods, Kirby comes to a cliffside overlooking King Dedede's castle, which has also been taken by Dark Matter. He also finds a Starshroom, flown to Pop Star by Rosalina after Dark Matter emerged from deep space and attacked the Comet Observatory. Together, Kirby and Rosalina set off to infiltrate King Dedede's castle through the icy caverns beneath it.

Beginning in this level, Rosalina is added as a playable character and will appear in some Costume Mushrooms. She was added because I wanted to have four playable characters like Kirby 64 does, but there are only three Kirby costumes in the game.

The world being named Dark Castle is a reference to Kirby's Dream Land 2, which called King Dedede's castle by that name, while the level being a frozen cavern is a reference to Dedede's castle being on an iceberg in Kirby's Dream Land 3.
