There are a total of four boxes that contains 5 acorns. So to get 23 points you need to manage to get a hold of the four boxes, plus the last one needs to contain 3 acorns. This is extremely luck-based, since one 5-acorn box can spawn right where the others start and they claim it right away.

Setting your CPU partner to Master helps them to make a better choice, likewise setting the opponents to Normal makes them dummies. You could try to use a second controller to control both, however that requires you to switch hands and everything just takes much more time. Having a friend that has played the minigame before help out is the easiest way to get max points.

I don't think getting 25 points is possible. I have only ever encountered four 5-acorn boxes.
