Super Mario RPG - Ch. 13 - Sunken Ship
Ok, here-a we go. We're gonna be grabbing the 5th Star Piece in this video, so that puts us well into the second half of the game. Last time, we travelled to Seaside Town, where its residents were all acting weird. The elder told us to go get the Star Piece and that's what we're doing anyways, so... Y'know.
The Star Piece is located on a sunken pirate ship in the bay nearby. We've already made our way to the treasure hold, where the previous crew trapped a giant squid. Now that we turned him into calamari rings, it's time to travel further into the ship...
CHAPTER 13 - SUNKEN SHIP
Ok, so after beating the giant squid, you'll fall into the one of the large holes here and land on a trampoline down below. In the next screen, you'll see a Dry Bones walking around. There's a path above and one below. The path below only serves as a way of returning to the previous room if you fall from the path above. So we'll take the one above. There's a bunch of rats firing cannons here. Make your way through them.
In the next screen, you'll see a set of stair leading down and a door. In the next screen, you'll see a bunc of those 'J' blocks with two item blocks above it. You can walk through it, but you'll hit a Dry Bones. After that you'll see a door, let's take it. Here, you'll see a mirror image of Mario. There's a hidden item here.
You'll first have to hit the J Block and then try to jump on the other Mario's head. This is a bit tricky, but definitely do-able. You'll get a Croaka Cola. Take the back exit to lead you to the previous room. You can jump on the row of J Blocks with the Dry Bones to reach the item blocks we saw earlier. They'll just have coins.
In the next screen, you'll see a tall wall of J Blocks. Note, there is a door right in the middle of the back wall, which leads to a Frog Coin. Take the stairs down. Here, you'll see an item block containing a Mushroom. There's also a save block along with a 'Whuhoh' hiding in the other item block. Beat it to get the 'Safety Badge', a useful accessory that prevents many negative statuses.
In the next room, you'll see some water on the right side. Don't get in the water for now and proceed to the next room. Get in the water here and use the whirlpool to reach the bottom. You can go to the previous room this way and get some Frog Coins. Return to the previous room and take the door here.
You'll see more stairs leading down. Head through the door at the end. Here, you'll see a Blooper Nanny swimming about. There's a pile of barrels on the left side that has a gap in the corner. Use it to fall behind them and head through a hidden door. This leads to a room with the Safety Ring, an accessory that prevents mortal blows.
Jump on the pile of barrels on the right side now to climb up to the ledge and take the door here. When you enter the next room, you'll be stopped by a group of anthropomorphic shark pirates. They'll fight you, but you can take them out quickly with Mallow's Thunderbolt.
There's a healing mushroom in the item block here. Go up the stairs and the sharks will trample over you as they chase you down the stairs. They chase you back up and some additional sharks will roll a barrel at you. This completely misses you and hits the other sharks, lol. Head to the next room.
Again, you'll be stopped by sharks and will fight you. Beat them and they'll finally let you pass to see their leader, Jonathan "Johnny" Jones. He's got the star, but he won't give it to you without a fight. Original, right?
BOSS BATTLE - Johnny, Bandana Blue x4 (HP - 820/150)
Pirate gang leader Jonathan "Johnny" Jones is joined by four 'Bandana Blue's. These are Johnny's personal bodyguards, so they're a bit tougher than the 'Bandana Red's we fought previously. But they're still total pushovers!
I start off by having Bowser use 'Terrorize' on the whole lot. But that makes them even easier to beat. It probably does this on purpose, because if you beat all four Bandana Blue's, Johnny will use a move called 'Get Tough' and challenge Mario to a one-on-one fight.
This is still pretty easy, but it's more tedious and makes the fight longer. It would be better to just focus on Johnny entirely. If your timed attacks are successful, they should hit everyone and the spillover damage might even be enough to take them out.
When the fight is done, Johnny congratulates you and will give you the 5th Star Piece. Afterwards, we'll proceed through the back door to exit the ship and head back to Seaside Town.
Welp, it's time for us to take a break. Join us next time for 'Ch. 14 - Land's End'.
