(Minor Spoilers) A review and analysis of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, one of the greatest games of all time! By Casen Sperry
Talk to me on Twitter! @casensperry

This time, we go deep into the division between Square and Nintendo after their final collaboration. This game combined the best that both companies had to offer and the result was nothing short of amazing.

Mallow, Geno and Peach join Mario on his most unique and immersive journey to date! There might even be a surprise character who fights with Mario for the first time ever... but what could Bowser gain from helping Mario? This game, Developed by Square and published by Nintendo, is the most important entry in the relationship between the two companies. Mario RPG is always an emotion experience for me. The attachment I feel with these characters is immeasurable. Yoko Shimomura composed the music for this game, which has one of the best soundtracks in the history of video games. I use nothing but her OST for Mario RPG in this video. She later went on to compose the soundtrack for Kingdom Hearts. Mario RPG was quickly overshadowed by Mario 64 which came out just a couple of months later. Sequels to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars include Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series. Since Square Enix owns the rights to Mario RPG, its world and characters (Mallow, Geno, etc.) there never was a Super Mario RPG 2.

This is one of the best, most underrated games ever made, and my personal favorite. I understand that most companies would give anything to have a game sell 2 million copies. But for Nintendo, this is just the 42nd best selling “Mario” game of all time. 42nd. Yes, this game is SEVERELY underrated. It flies just under the radar due to the shadow of Square’s bigger hits on the Playstation, and Nintendo’s “other” Mario game, Mario 64. Bet you’ve never heard anyone refer to Mario 64 as the “other” Mario game from 1996. Not to knock that game at all, though. It changed gaming forever and effectively ushered in the 3D era for Nintendo, and really provided a framework for many subsequent video games in general. But in my mind, Mario RPG shines bright in the midst of both Nintendo and Square’s Golden Era’s; The time when both companies were at the very forefront of the gaming revolution; resulting in an outright masterpiece.

Games featured in this video: Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Legend of Legaia, Mario 64, Mario & Luigi, Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
