84This is a new untied record, beating possibly the oldest time record in the whole game. Previous record was 48.53. First achieved by packattack on or before August 27, 2003.
This is a record I have tried hard to untie for a couple years now. I theorized that the slightly different method I thought of could be slightly faster. Every time the obstacle hits the ball, it travels slightly less forward, meaning if I can get it to hit me less, I could in theory get to the goal sooner. Yesterday, I got my hands on a new practice hack with console savestates (thank you ComplexPlane!)and just started messing around on some levels for fun. Sieve was one of those levels. I made a savestate right before the final hit so I could try the ending a bunch of times and see if 48.55 was actually possible and got .55 fairly quickly. You don't have to worry about people cheating on console with the savestates. The mod prevents the ability to save replays, and background scrolling textures/animation don't reset so they would shift if savestates were spliced out.

This is a list of videos of really old records that also shows the date the videos were uploaded, meaning they are the most recent possible estimate of when the records were achieved. Something must have happened to vortiginous at some point in 2003, because none of the videos are uploaded before August 2003. Some records are a little older. I THINK packattack got 10,206(48.53) on sieve in 2002, actually.
The oldest time record in the game is now Narrow Peaks which appears in smilingjack13's famous stunt video. it would be interesting to see who can beat 56.01 and topple the now oldest time record in the game!

When referring to oldest record, I am specifically talking about the challenge mode stages and story mode world 10 stages. Not the party games or anything with in-game leaderboards.
2022-05-25 update: all of packattacks records have been removed due to rapid pausing, so it's highly likely his 48.53 was cheated and never counted as an actual WR. sad
