Developed and published by Retro Army Limited and Storybird Games, Super Trench Attack is described as a goofball comedy shooter based in a World War setting. This game was in development for five years by Paul Stephen-Davis and the game lives up to the description above. I played this on Nintendo Switch but it's also available on Steam. The Switch version is a twin-stick shooter set up. The right stick aims the cursor while the left stick walks. You're armed with two guns, projectile weapons and traps. Enemies drop gold which you can use to replenish ammo and purchase more powerful weapons. This isn't a particularly long game. I was able to beat it under five hours. The levels consist of battle fields, underground bunkers and trenches. The boss fights have variety with a couple of note being arcade-like shooters where you use a retina to defeat enemies popping out behind walls.
I enjoyed this game, but it had its problems. It's clear it wasn't optimized well for the Switch. The aforementioned arcade-like shooter boss fights were clearly designed for a mouse. There's no way to increase the scroll speed of the retina which meant I had to memorize where the enemies would pop out and quickly fire. Those boss fights took multiple attempts to memorize and were quite frustrating. I also ran into multiple crashes when I lost to a boss late in the game. As of this writing, the game has never been updated on Switch. Despite that, the game is playable and beatable. It's quite fun but really could've used some tweaks I outlined above. I recommend the Steam version of the game for those that are interested.
