Here is a quick troubleshooting video on MIDI protocol and what to do when you don't hear your MIDI instrument upon evaluating the "noteOn" method in SuperCollider. It's a very easy problem to have, and there's a very quick solution to it.

And that is turning on the IAC Driver.

Normally your IAC Driver is online, but, if in the odd circumstance it isn't, you can turn it on by going into Audio MIDI Setup.
