Why Frequency Is Fundamental To Practice
7Progress doesn't happen without practicing every day, but practicing every day can be daunting, especially when you're starting out. My advice is to start with a minimum amount of minutes, between 5 and 30 minutes, and then applying yourself daily to the skills you want to master.
I've learned from experience as a professional violinist, composer, and instructor that frequency, not time, is most important to your practice.
5 minutes might not seem like much (because it isn't), but what the human brain craves is habit, not duration (or activities done intermittently). Habit can only come from practicing frequently. Once it becomes habit, you'll find that it's easier to stretch yourself and work much longer.
