Superman 1cc
A 1-credit clear of the arcade game Superman, played with MAME 0.203. Final score: 1,822,300.
An important game mechanic here is that a fully charged super punch (not just partial charge) can generate pickups when it hits an enemy or destructible obstacle. Killing the enemy doesn't matter, just blasting it with the hadoken projectile from the super punch. So at various points I use super punches to farm blue pickups (health refill) or yellow pickups (instantly-charged super punches). This is easiest on the scrolling stages, where you can pause and farm. On the shmup stages, you do most damage with your eye laser, but you want to use super punches to pierce or to farm pickups.
Also noticeable is that you need not fight every enemy - just flying merrily past things works pretty well in many places.
Final boss is a huge jerk, but otherwise the design is pretty good. Not Taito's best work but not bad for 1988.
