In the world of Invincible, The Meteor Twins are capable #supermananalogue heroes... as long as they're close to each other!

Original Text: For today's #SupermanAnalogue, we're going back to
@RobertKirkman's Invincible universe, specifically back to "Capes", to talk about The Meteor Twins!
While not in the upper eschelon of Image's heavy hitters, they could certainly pack a wallop... As long as they were within 30 feet of each other.
It's an interesting twist (and WAY too similar to an idea I had in high school), allowing a natural way to elevate the stakes in a conflict. The fact that the two fucking hated each other was also a fun touch.
Ed and Marshall were high school rivals who were caught in the same accident and became linked. Because they were heroes, they learned to put up with each other for the greater good, but never stopped bickering. It's a great hook for a story (maybe a pilot?)...
..which we sadly didn't have much time to live with. Fighting a mind controlled super Nazi cyborg (because comics), Ed was separated from Marshall and things went about how you expected.
I should note that Capes is a solid example of the characteristic Kirkman light hearted cartoony style juxtaposed with extremely graphic violence.
Anyway, the follow up story showed Marshall dealing with the loss of both his powers and his lifelong companion and frenemy.
However, he soon discovered that by holding onto the urn containing the ashes of Ed, he'd regain some of his powers, putting him around the Golden Age Superman. Again, if we'd had more time with this idea, I'd have loved to see this explored, but Capes definitely moved fast.
Anyway, a big baddy shows up and Marshall needs to step up his game, so he decides to eat the ashes, properly fusing himself with his dead frenemy.
The resulting hybrid unlocks the full potential of their powers, resulting in a fused being known as the Meteor Master, who gives off Silver Surfer vibes with a dash of maybe Vegeto (Kirkman stuff always has unintended shades of Dragon Ball Z)
After saving the day, the new being leaves Earth to continue its greater purpose which had been dormant while divided between the Twins. I don't think it pops up again, even in the massively cosmic final third of the Invincible series. Too bad. Would have liked to know more.
The Twins has a pretty basic Superman style outfit, with the nice touch of inverted color schemes. The Master form was simple but had cool coloring to make it visually dynamic. Nothing too complex but both iterations got their story across.
I'll end today by pointing out that the trade for Capes is available in print and digital. Many of the characters introduced in it have larger roles to play in later connected books. It's raw both in art and writing, but there's tons of promise for what was to come. Check it out.
