Hack The Planet!
Your cell phone is NOT secure! Aside from the general weaknesses of cell networks, there is a protocol in place that is intended to make it possible for you to travel between networks when you’re on vacation, is EVEN MORE insecure than the rest. Called Signaling System 7 (SS7), it is actually a set of protocols that was written in 1975, and it has little to no security and leaves users open to hacking by shady types. This was cracked by the Washington Post when they obtained a letter from Homeland Security to Democratic Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon. The FCC declined to comment beyond the fact that it “received and [is] reviewing” the letter.
Virgin Galactic
Richard Branson is coming back into the conversation. His company Virgin Galactic is testing their next round of spacecraft for Branson’s space tourism brand. Will they be gearing up for manned tests again soon?

Nuclear Batteries
Russian researchers have made a giant step towards a nuclear powered world. Researchers at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), Superhard and Novel Carbon Materials (TISNCM), National University of Science and Technology (formerly Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys State Technological University “MISIS”) are working on nuclear powered batteries. The process itself isn’t exactly new. Nuclear batteries were invented in 1913 by Henry Moseley. Then in 53 Paul Rappaport introduced semiconducting materials to the process and “modernized” it. But those semiconducting materials required diamond materials. Well the team at TISNCM have created a system for synthesizing very thin diamond plates. Which puts us on a track for potentially mass producing them in 2020.
Spotify
Completely removed the conduct policy. CEO Daniel Ek made a statement this week saying that they never intended on becoming the morality police."Across all genres, our role is not to regulate artists. Therefore, we are moving away from implementing a policy around artist conduct."
What did I miss all across the Nerdom? What should we talk about next week?
