What is Patreon?
Patreon is a crowd-founding website similar to Kickstarter where you can support your favourite artists and creators by offering to give money for our work. Unlike Kickstarter the money you donate is not made towards one big project but rather dedicated to ongoing enterprise. On Patreon you can donate money monthly to support me and my videos, it is your choice how much you want to give and you can stop or change the amount at any time. If you would like to donate one lump sum of money you can do that easily by setting your monthly donation and cancelling it next month.
Why Patreon?
YouTube is a strange place. We YouTubers get money from advertisement placed along our videos however this money is really pennies. 1000 or even 10,000 views is just enough to get us a cup of coffee at a restaurant. Despite what YouTube tells you it promotes quantity over quality and if you want to put proper care and attention to your videos YouTube doesn't pay you that well. Only 30% of videos on YouTube are monetised, with an increasing number of people using ad block. From those monetised videos, YouTube takes 45% of revenue after that comes whatever the percentage Multi Channel Network will take from us and then at the end of this I still have to pay tax on whatever I earn. As a result YouTubers often see less than 30% of the initial money that their channel has made.
Financially is it much better to upload 3 average videos over one excellent one. I don't want to be average and I am sure you don't want that too. With your help I can worry less about what advertisements will pay me and focus on the content you want to see on my channel.
Rewards
It will be a great honor that any of you guys wants to give your hard-earned money to me and I want to give you something more in return rather than just a simple thank you. Patreon allows us to set a reward system in which you will receive fun perks depending on your donations. I have set a few in place but If you would like to see some other options please let me know and I am sure we can work something out.
Goals
Similarly to rewards, Patreon allows me to set goals that we are striving for. I have selected a few just to let you know where are we going and what is needed for the channel to function properly. These goals are not set in stone and may change over time or a new one can appear. I set them with assumption of getting absolutely 0 income from advertisement revenue as a worst case scenario. So it is quite possible that we will achieve some of them faster depending on how much YouTube decides to pay for their adverts to YouTubers.
