A quick rush startup guide for Salem the Crafting MMO Game. Get settled in 2 hours and 10 easy steps! The 10 steps are listed below!

WARNING!
- Don't go near the naked people standing around town! They could be diseased!
- If you hear or see a Bear, Cougar, or Snake run back to where you came from and walk around!
- Outside of the main town's area it's possible for people to kill you!
WARNING!

1. Hang around Providence if you want to feel safe and level, but don't spend too long here because logs and stumps are empty. Tumbleweeds, abandoned cobwebs, and sunflowers are good to collect North of town.

2. Port out into the wild when you feel comfortable, you don't need to stay near your leanto—you will find abandoned ones that you will be able to use to port back to town.

3. Search every log and stump for food and inspirationals—mainly feathers, arrowheads, and snake skins to sell. Craft feathers and arrowheads into Savage Charms. We need to buy 2 pieces of leather. On the forums people sell leather for 20-30 silver or you should be able to find it for 40-70 silver at the player stalls (3-7 Savage Charms)

4. Rush skills—Whittling, Essential Mineralogy, Prospecting, Indian Tracking, and Settling.

5. Find or build a leanto and port back to Providence to buy a writ of homesteading and 2 pieces of leather (150s + cost of leather = 8 to 12 savage charms). Craft a woo-woo-wand.

6. Continue wandering and levelling until you find a body of water, then start prospecting. Spend as long as you like searching for a spot to settle.

7. Choose a suitable spot to settle. Here are what I prioritise from most to least important:
- Not near an existing big settlement
- Generally flat land with room to build
- Lime deposit (Important for clay production, gardening pots, smelting iron, building walls)
- Body of water (You will need this for filling buckets, cooking, gardening, sifting rubble, fishing, hunting beavers); lakes are better than rivers as raiders like to scout rivers
- Spot for a mine really close to the water (easy to bring out rubble and sift for gems and gold)
*I would consider a lime deposit near a water spot for a well as you can port to town and fish/sift*
- Stone deposit
- Clay deposit
- 3 or more biomes nearby
- Sand (can be dug in Providence)
As far as I've experienced, you will never find the perfect place, so try to get at least 5 of these points. You'll need to trade for what you don't have. IF a perfect place exists, you can be sure someone is already living there.

8. Once you find a spot build a leanto and make it your home. Port back to the city to sell more stuff and but a writ of homesteading if you haven't already. Build a claim stone and expand your claim with your extra silver.

9. Build a makeshift fence to cover as much land as you claimed. I wouldn't go larger than 20x20 tiles at this point though.

10. Set up basic facilities and tools:
- Whittler's Bench
- Wooden shovel
- Containers
- Fireplace
- Leafy bed (instant logout)
- etc.
(Be careful not to build on top of your mine or water spot!)

SPAMMABLE INSPIRATIONALS
- Smooth Stone
- Abandoned Cobweb
- Stray Chestnut
- Simple Crucifix (and the resulting wood chips)
- Flaming Pinecone (just click a pinecone on a fire, but it'll disappear soon after)
- Sand (infinite digging on a sandy beach)

This time, I show you one way to quickly get started in Salem. In 2 hours you can level up, find a good spot to settle, and claim land.

GamerZakh is returning to Salem the Crafting MMO many years after my 2012 guide videos. Expect weekly uploads of guides and gameplay as we ramp up to release (FINALLY!) in mid-June 2015.
