SWIFT has held the monopoly for cross border payments for over 45 years. One new kid on the block is working feverishly to unseat the mega company to bring faster, more secure, more transparent and bring a better cross border and remittance payment solution.
Ripple with Xcurrent, Xvia and Xrapid is the strongest competitor to SWIFT and their new SWIFT GPI. SWIFT has a lead as the incumbent with over 11,000 current customer users and over 25 million messages and 5 Trillion dollars in daily transactions. However, Ripple is far more nimble, is presenting a better software solution and product. SWIFT has a new platform SWIFT GPI that they will need to convert their customers over to, albeit with a large hardware and software retool on the part of each and every bank customer. SWIFT antipates that they can get the world using SWIFT GPI by 2020. Ripple's CEO has stated that they will have a large number of banks and remittance companies using the Ripple platform with all 3 Xcurrent, Xvia and Xrapid, XRP, by the end of 2019.
