In this chapter, after a brave, but still doomed attempt at communication with her best friend Olivia, Kate sets out for the Music Academy of Vaghen, where she hopes to uncover more of Dana's history. On the way, she is fortunate to run into Oscar, still roaming all over town, and finally get him to stay at her side. Things are clearly less happy at the Academy, which has seemingly run out of students and whose Rector is found packing, ready to carry out an impending eviction order from the City Council. He promises Kate assistance with finding information on Dana - in exchange for one "tiny" service: repair the clockwork mechanism of the town square so that the automatons can play the Hymn of Vaghen one last time...
