One of the main criticisms held against Symbian^3 by the media (mostly US media) is that the UI is somehow stale and outdated, sluggish, ugly, old, unnattractive and boring. What I have found in my use of Symbian^3, Android 2.2 and Maemo5 is that they all offer basically THE SAME user experience. They all offer multiple customizable homescreens with widgets.

I am astonished that given the similar, (read: almost the same) day to day usage methology, how one can come to the conclusion that Symbian^3 is horrible and not fit for everyday usage.

Now, when I use my Android phone, I add widgets and icons to the homescreens and click on whatever I want to use. Same thing with Symbian^3.

This video demonstrates the UI comparisons of both and is a quick glance at what a person normally does with his/her smartphone: Access apps to use their content in landscape and portrait modes.

Let's be honest, besides a different underlying menu structure (sure, we spend all of our time in the menues!), both OSes behave so similar that I am surprised that neither company sued the other.

If one can be so dogmatic in declaring Symbian^3 stale and outdated to the point of NOT RECOMMENDING IT TO ANYONE, what do they say about Android and it's similar UX? What does that say about the person reviewing the device? Hidden agenda?

I may post other comparisons in the future.

Thank you for your time.
